Aaron Rodgers says ex-Danica Patrick was not ‘fun to be around’
Aaron Rodgers is looking back on his relationship with former race car driver Danica Patrick, recalling a difficult period that ultimately led to their 2020 split.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback discussed the relationship on the Not Just Football podcast on Thursday, Sept. 10, telling host and teammate Cam Heyward that Patrick was struggling emotionally after retiring from racing.
“I dated Danica (Patrick). She had just retired. She was depressed and not fun to be around, but I didn’t leave her because I was trying to be there and be a good partner,” Rodgers said.
He recalled that their relationship later deteriorated, saying, “Then it was going a certain direction, obviously. There was no intimacy. There was nothing.”
Rodgers also said Patrick suggested they attend couples counselling before they eventually separated.
The pair split in July 2020 after dating for more than two years.
Rodgers also addressed Patrick’s account of their breakup, disputing her description of how the relationship ended.
“She tells a story that, ‘I was so blindsided by getting left by you, and he leaves a trail of blood around.’ I’m like what are you talking about? That is not what happened by any means,” he said.
Patrick previously discussed the relationship during a May 2025 appearance on The Sage Steele Show, where she described Rodgers as “emotionally abusive” and said the relationship “wore me down to nothing.” She also said, “he leaves a trail of blood.”
