The results of the Rajasthan local self-government elections have been declared, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party has maintained its dominance. The BJP has been particularly successful in small towns and tribal areas. While on the other hand, independent candidates have proved their strong hold in farmer dominated areas.
An interesting picture has emerged in the 10 metropolitan corporations of the state. Out of which BJP has registered victory in 5 corporations, while Congress has got success in only 1 corporation. In the remaining 4 metropolitan corporations, a situation of hanging has arisen.

Mathematics of Municipalities and Town Councils

Municipalities (Total 252): BJP – 144, Congress – 92, Independent – 16

Nagar Parishad (Total 47): BJP – 21, Congress – 17, Independent – 9
Talking about the total wards, the BJP has won more than 4,000 wards with a brilliant performance. Over 3,450 wards have come under the Congress’s account, while over 2,400 wards have been flagged by independent candidates.

Main reasons for winning and losing

The main reason behind this success of BJP in the elections is considered to be the policies of the Bhajanlal government which succeeded in stopping the paper leak and providing employment to the youth. However, protests against the UGC in major cities have affected the party’s performance. On the other hand, the Congress performance remained poor as the party remained overly dependent on the anti-BJP environment. Apart from this, the internal dissension in the organization and silence on the youth issues have cost the Congress a lot.

A blow to the BJP in the stronghold of veterans

BJP has faced defeat in the constituencies of some big leaders in this election. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal’s constituency Bikaner has suffered a major defeat for the BJP. Apart from this, the party has also lost in Jhalawar, which is the stronghold of BJP national vice-president and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
One result of the Parbatsar municipal election in Didwana-Kuchaman district has become the subject of debate, where the BJP and RLP candidates got only one vote each. Surprisingly, the BJP candidate did not have his own vote in the ward from which he was contesting.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma termed this victory as historic and thanked the people and BJP workers. While Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also tweeted on social media that this mandate is the people’s stamp on the policy of good governance and development under the guidance of PM Modi and the leadership of CM Bhajanlal.
