LPG Gas Safety Tips: Hardly anyone pays attention to the flame of the gas stove while cooking in the kitchen. But if yellow or orange flame starts appearing on your stove instead of the normal blue flame, then it is not right to ignore it considering it to be a minor change. Change in flame color can sometimes be due to a small problem like dirt in the burner, while a persistent yellow flame can also be a sign of the gas not burning properly.
Actually, for better combustion of gas, the correct ratio of fuel and air is necessary. When this balance is disturbed, the color of the flame may change. In such a situation, it is important to know where the problem is and when to seek help from an expert instead of cleaning it yourself.
Why does the blue flame of a gas stove turn yellow?
If sufficient air is not available during the burning of gas, combustion does not occur properly. This is why a normal blue flame may appear yellow or orange. Lack of air supply, blockage in the burner or disturbance in the mixing of gas and air could be the reason behind this.
If sometimes the color of the flame changes slightly and the problem goes away after cleaning the burner, then the reason could also be dirt. But if the flame remains yellow continuously then it is not right to keep using it without checking.
The color of the flame can also change due to accumulation of dirt in the burner.
While cooking, oil, milk, spices and small food particles can accumulate in the burner holes. If cleaning is not done for a long time, dust and other dirt also accumulates there. This can cause problems in the release of gas and its proper mixing with air.
In such a situation, first turn off the gas and let the burner cool completely. After this, clean the burner according to the manufacturer’s instructions. After cleaning, apply it again only after drying it thoroughly.
Even if the burner cap is not installed properly, abnormal flame will appear (LPG Gas Safety Tips)
Many times, after cleaning the burner, the problem is not in the cleaning itself, but in the burner cap not being in the correct position. If the cap is not properly seated, the shape and color of the gas flame may appear different from normal.
Therefore, after cleaning the burner, make sure that all its parts are properly installed in their place.
Is it safe to cook with yellow or orange flame?
If the flame continues to appear bright yellow or orange, caution should be exercised. Such a situation may indicate incomplete combustion of the gas. In many cases, seeing soot or black marks at the bottom of the vessel can also be a sign of this.
The exact cause of the problem cannot be determined just by looking at the color of the flame. Therefore, if abnormal flame is seen continuously, getting the stove checked is a safer option.
What is the first thing to do at home if you see yellow flame?
First of all, turn off the gas supply and let the stove cool down. After this, remove the burner and clean its external dirt. Also remove particles accumulated in the burner holes as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Fit the burner correctly after it has completely dried. Even after this, if the flame does not turn normal blue, do not tamper with the gas jet or air setting yourself.
Don’t ignore these signs at all
If the flame remains yellow even after cleaning, smell of gas is felt, unusual noise comes from the burner or the behavior of the flame is not normal, then it is better to stop using the stove. In such a situation, get it checked by an authorized gas service or a trained technician.
Why is regular cleaning of gas stove important?
Dirt accumulated on the burner can not only affect the color of the flame of the stove but can also hinder the gas flow and combustion process. Therefore, it is important to clean the stove and burner regularly. However, you should avoid making any changes to the internal parts of the gas or to the settings of the jet without knowledge.
