Preparations are underway to change the NEET UG exam from pen-paper mode to computer-based test. According to NTA DG Abhishek Singh, a high-powered task force is working on this and CBT has been described as the future of the exam.

New Delhi: Changes may be seen soon in the conduct of NEET UG examination. National Testing Agency Director General Abhishek Singh has said that NEET can be changed to Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode very soon. A high-powered task force led by Nandan Nilekani is working on this change.

CBT told the future of NEET UG exam

Amidst the questions raised regarding irregularities in the NEET UG examination, many changes are being worked on in the examination system. Currently, NEET UG is conducted in pen-paper mode, but there are preparations to soon change it to computer-based test i.e. CBT mode.

NTA Director General Abhishek Singh said that NEET will be converted into CBT very soon. He informed that the high-powered task force led by Nandan Nilekani is working in this direction. He described CBT as the future of examinations.

Except NEET, other NTA exams in CBT mode

According to NTA DG, all the examinations conducted by the agency except NEET UG are already being conducted in computer-based test medium. In such a situation, work is being done to bring NEET UG also in CBT mode.

The purpose of making the examination computer based is to further strengthen the examination system. Work is being done by a high-powered task force regarding this change.

Discussion on cooperation with BRICS countries also

On the question to cooperation between BRICS countries regarding secure question paper technology, Abhishek Singh said that cooperation can be done in many ways in this field. He said that the challenges to examination are not limited to India only, but other countries of the world also have to face them.

Giving the example of China's Gaokao exam, he said that it is a pen-and-paper based exam and there is a lot of discussion about its conduct. He told that arrangements are made to the extent of shutting down the entire city to conduct the examination.

According to NTA DG, there is a need to prepare question paper for every examination. In such a situation, different countries can discuss, cooperate and share information with each other in the examination system, security of question paper and other areas.

NTA's focus on cross-border exam

Abhishek Singh said that the next step of the National Examination Agency could be cross-border examination. However, for this the first focus will be on strengthening the examination system within India.

After this cooperation can be taken from BRICS countries. In future, NTA can expand its testing system outside India also. That is, after strengthening the domestic examination system, the agency plans to move towards expanding its examination system at the international level.
