Vincent Kompany has offered Sacha Boey an unexpected route back into the Bayern Munich set-up after the French full-back was unable to complete a move away from the Allianz Arena during the summer transfer window. Although he had been openly identified as a player who could be sold, the former Galatasaray defender is now set to be brought back into the first-team squad for the 2026-27 season.

Failed moves to Fulham and Saudi Arabia

The situation came to a head in the closing days of the transfer window, when multiple clubs looked into signing the defender. Premier League club Fulham entered direct discussions with Bayern over a possible deadline-day transfer, but the move did not go through before the English window closed. The Cottagers were reportedly considering the Frenchman after running into problems with other defensive targets, but the financial and structural terms involved in the deal were too difficult to resolve in the final hours of the market.

In addition, a potentially lucrative move to the Middle East also disappeared once the Saudi Pro League deadline passed. Reports said Boey’s transfer to Saudi Arabia collapsed, even though the player was believed to be open to the switch in principle. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl had earlier stated that the club had been transparent about the player’s situation, but with no formal bid matching their valuation, the defender remains under contract in Munich until 2028. That means the Frenchman now faces a fight for playing time against the likes of Josip Stanisic and Konrad Laimer.

Kompany confirms Boey reintegration

Kompany has now officially brought Boey back into his senior plans after a summer filled with strong speculation over the defender’s future. The Bayern head coach made it clear that the player has his full support going into the new campaign. “Now the transfer window is closed, and Sacha is part of our team and has our support,” Kompany said.

“My role now is that he performs. But the reality is we have Josip Stanisic and Konrad Laimer in the position, and competition is already fierce. So you need patience and hard work. But anything can happen in football if you have the right attitude. We’re simply treating him with respect. He’s training very well at the moment, and everything else will fall into place.”

Kompany also spoke about how difficult it can be to manage players who have been informed that they are no longer first-choice options. The Belgian coach praised the club’s leadership, especially Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, for being direct in their communication during what proved to be a turbulent summer for several members of the squad. Even if such messages are rarely what professional footballers want to hear, Kompany feels the clarity shown by Bayern’s hierarchy helps preserve professional respect inside the dressing room, even in the middle of transfer uncertainty.

“What I’ve seen working with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund is that the club is clear and straightforward; also in dealings with players,” Kompany explained. “It’s not always pleasant for the player, but you also gain a lot of respect from the players when you speak to them clearly and honestly.”

As Bayern get ready for their upcoming match against SV Elversberg, attention is now turning towards squad fitness and tactical planning. While Boey continues his battle for a place, there are also encouraging signs on the injury front for the record champions.
