UPI is central to online digital transactions. Its accompanying UPI Lite facility allows you to make payments directly to others without a pin number. Especially used for small digital payments.
UPI Lite is an on-device wallet offered by National Payments Corporation of India (NBCI). And it is very easy to use. It allows users to make quick payments of up to Rs 500 at a time through a wallet capable of holding a maximum balance of Rs 2,000.
Unlike regular UPI transactions, UPI Lite transactions do not require a tracking number, thus reducing the problem of payment failure.
UPI Lite uses an on-device wallet approach, meaning the balance is tied to the smartphone and cannot be transferred to another device. When you switch to a new mobile, users must empty the UPI Lite wallet to avoid losing their money. UPI Lite is used in Google Pay, Phone Pay, Paytm, BHIM etc.
How to use UPI Lite?
1. Open UPI app like BHIM, Google Pay or PhonePe.
2. Click on Enable UPI Lite option and accept the terms and conditions.
3. Enter the amount you want to pay in the UPI Lite Wallet (Maximum add up to Rs. 2,000 only).
4. Authenticate the transaction with the UPI password.
To make a payment using UPI Lite, simply scan the UPI-powered QR code or enter the recipient’s phone number. Next select UPI-Lite as payment option. Currently, users can only send up to Rs.500 per transaction.
UPI-Lite account can also be easily deleted if no longer needed, money in the wallet will be sent back to your bank account.
