With the picture-in-picture mode that WhatsApp currently provides, users may minimise a video conversation and go on using other applications on their phone without disturbing the call.

According to a recent internet rumour, the app owned by Meta is reportedly developing a picture-in-picture function for films.
According to WABetaInfo, the well-known messaging app is now investigating new capabilities to improve multitasking while watching videos, among other ways to improve the video viewing experience.

A feature that will let users view videos while browsing across different conversations or app areas is currently being implemented by WhatsApp. A future version is planned to incorporate this capability. While videos shared directly inside WhatsApp may already use picture-in-picture, films uploaded on YouTube and Instagram do not yet support this feature. The next feature will allow users to view video material shared among contacts in picture-in-picture mode, which is intended to improve the user experience. It’s important to emphasise that users will be able to view films inside the app itself as long as the picture-in-picture functionality is developed further. It won’t, however, carry over this feature when users go to another app.
WhatsApp hopes to further improve user convenience with the introduction of the picture-in-picture function, guaranteeing that everyone may take advantage of continuous video playback regardless of what they are doing on the app. We think that being able to utilise the picture-in-picture mode and remain attentive to current chats would improve multitasking as well, allowing users to choose how they engage with the app while watching videos,” the paper states.
