WhatsApp Ban: There is no good news for WhatsApp from China, here Apple has removed WhatsApp from its App Store. Actually, Apple has taken this step due to the current IT laws of China. At the same time, in April this year, WhatsApp has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against India's IT 2021 rules.
In which WhatsApp has cited the end-to-end encryption feature and said that it will not follow the IT Act 2021. Along with this, WhatsApp has threatened that if the government will use force regarding this, then it will end its service in India. Let us tell you that this controversy regarding WhatsApp is not limited to China and India only.
WhatsApp is banned in these countries
China and North Korea have already banned WhatsApp. Iran, Qatar, Syria and the United Arab Emirates have also been added to this list. By the way, WhatsApp has more than 20 million users worldwide and users in these countries who want to use WhatsApp are taking advantage of its service through VPN.
Why have these countries banned WhatsApp?
China wants to promote its own messaging app in its country, for this China has made strict laws for foreign messaging apps. In such a situation it was difficult for WhatsApp to work in China and other messaging apps like WeChat and Weibo have strengthened their hold.
Similarly, North Korea, which has the most restrictive national policy, does not allow its citizens to use WhatsApp or any other major messaging app used globally. Other countries that have banned WhatsApp include Iran, Syria, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Syria and Iran are war-torn countries, so they have banned WhatsApp to prevent the rapid flow of information. On the other hand, the UAE has blocked WhatsApp voice and video calls to boost local telecom companies. Qatar has also blocked WhatsApp calls but allows its citizens to send text messages on the app.
WhatsApp banned 80 lakh accounts in India
WhatsApp has banned more than 7.9 million accounts in India between March 1 and March 31, 2024. WhatsApp has banned these accounts under the IT Act 2021.
