The beneficiaries of the scheme will get this subsidy till 31 March 2025. This means that for the next 9 months, customers will be able to avail a discount of Rs 300.
Scheme Details
This scheme was started in the year 2016. The beneficiaries of this scheme are given 12 refills in a year during the financial year 2024-25. Under this scheme, a subsidy of Rs 300 is given on a 14.2 kg cylinder. There are more than 10.27 crore PMUY beneficiaries as of March 1, 2024. The total expenditure for the financial year 2024-25 will be Rs 12,000 crore. The subsidy is deposited directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries. Let us tell you that the government will work on a plan to provide 75 lakh new connections under this scheme.
Let us tell you that India imports about 60 percent of its LPG requirement. The government introduced the subsidy to protect PMUY beneficiaries from the impact of sharp fluctuations in international LPG prices and to ensure continued use of LPG by PMUY consumers.
