WhatsApp is set for a major artificial intelligence (AI) upgrade as several new features are added to the meta-AI built into the app. The Meta-owned instant messaging platform announced Tuesday that it is introducing new image generation features and multilingual support for the app’s artificial intelligence assistant. These features are available on both Android and iOS, but not all of them are rolling out globally. The Imagine Me feature allows users to click on their photo to generate different AI-generated avatars.

In a blog post, WhatsApp pointed out new AI features that will be available soon. The first is multilingual support. Meta AI is used in a total of 22 countries. New countries where the AI ​​chatbot will be available include Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Cameroon.

In addition, the chatbot also supports several new languages. Previously you could only accept requests and responses in English, now you can accept requests in French, German, Hindi (both Devanagari and Romanization), Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. The social media giant has confirmed that it will support more languages ​​in the coming months.

As for the image generation features, WhatsApp Meta AI has added the “Imagine Me” feature that allows users to create their own images with AI-generated settings and styles. For example, users can create images of themselves relaxing on the beach or as an astronaut. This feature requires users to click on a photo first to prevent deepfake abuse. What’s worth noting is that this feature is currently in beta and is only available in the US. More countries are likely to introduce it in the near future.

Another interesting feature of WhatsApp is Imagine Edit. It allows users to capture AI-generated images and edit them using text messages. Users can add, remove or change objects, backgrounds etc. For example, after a user creates an image of a woman walking in a park, they can ask Meta to change the setting to “Market” or change the woman’s outfit. According to this post, this feature is rolling out globally.

Finally, WhatsApp will also have exclusive features of the application. Users have the opportunity to try out the recently released Meta Llama 3.1 405B AI model. The company claims its AI models can better process complex queries, solve advanced math problems, and write code more efficiently. The feature is expected to roll out globally, but the company is yet to confirm it.
