The Supreme Court has given an important verdict in the case of murder for a mango. The court has converted life imprisonment into a sentence of 7 years. While imposing a fine along with the sentence of 7 years, the Supreme Court said that this is not a case of pre-planned murder, because the incident started with a fight between children for a mango, which unfortunately escalated when the elders of the family also got involved. Ultimately this became the reason for death and a child's father was attacked.
However, in a criminal appeal filed against the Allahabad High Court's decision in the Supreme Court, a bench headed by Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia upheld the conviction of the convicts. But ordered the sentence of life imprisonment to be changed to seven years. The Supreme Court said in its decision that the court upholds the conviction under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Murder was not premeditated: Court
Justice A. Amanullah was also included in the Supreme Court bench. The bench said that the reason for this murder was a fight that started between children over a mango. It was not pre-planned. The fight happened suddenly and the murder happened when family members got involved. Therefore, the court converts the sentence of life imprisonment of all the accused into rigorous imprisonment for seven years.
