WhatsApp is now allowing some companies in India to send promotional messages to its users. These companies include real-money gaming and over-the-counter medicine companies. The instant messaging platform has updated its WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy under which real-money gaming and over-the-counter medicine companies can send promotional messages. 

Not for users under 18 years of age

WhatsApp says these promotional messages must comply with all applicable laws. In the updated Business Policy page, the company says WhatsApp Business messaging that promotes online real-money gaming and over-the-counter drugs "must comply with all applicable local laws, required or established industry codes, guidelines, licenses." Such messages cannot be sent to people under the age of 8.

Activities Involved in Real-Money Gaming

Real-money gaming includes online gambling, betting, lotteries, raffles, casino games, fantasy sports, bingo, poker, skill games, tournaments, and sweepstakes. 

Additional requirements for sending real-money gaming messages

WhatsApp has also listed requirements for sending messages promoting online real-money gaming. Request permission using the application form from Meta Platforms, Inc. Provide proof that the online real-money gaming activities are licensed by a regulator.
