The police have arrested a man who allegedly killed a woman, reportedly a sex worker, over a money dispute and disposed of her severed body parts in a suitcase in the Thoraipakkam area of Chennai on Thursday morning.
The Toraipakkam Police recovered the severed body parts of the woman from the suitcase, following which an investigation was launched.
According to the initial probe, the police suspect that she was murdered elsewhere, and the suitcase containing her body was dumped in a residential area near the IT Corridor in Thoraipakkam.
The man has been identified as Manikandan from the Sivaganga district, while the woman, aged 32, is from Madhavaram.
During the questioning, Manikandan told police that he murdered her using a hammer over a money dispute. He also informed me that he severed her body parts and dumped them in a suitcase.
A missing person’s complaint was filed by the woman’s brother after she failed to return home. When he attempted to call her mobile, he found it was turned off. He tracked her phone and discovered that she was last seen near Thoraipakkam.
On Wednesday night, he went to the police station to report his sister’s disappearance and informed the Thoraipakkam police about her last known location. The police then tracked the suspect using footage from a CCTV camera.
