Thousands of kilometers of coastline could disappear underwater: India issues dire warning at UNSC

India delivered its statement at UNGA High-level Plenary Meeting on addressing the Existential threats posed by Sea level rise. Tanmaya Lal said, “India is often referred to as a sub-continent one whose coast line travels to thousands of kilometers and one that has thousands of islands. India represents 1/6 of the global population and 1/3 of Indians live along this long coast line drawing sustenance from blue economy. See level rise is aerial threat for India and therefore India acutely understands the vulnerability of small island states. According to recent study, some critical infrastructure in six of our key cities could be submerged due to rise in sea level. India is therefore taking some steps to counter this risk.”
