Additional DCP Alok Sharma said a child alerted the police after spotting a naked woman in Indore's Neelkanth Colony. She was quickly taken to MY Hospital.
In a shocking incident, a mentally ill 40-year-old woman was raped in Indore and later found wandering naked on the road, exposing the vulnerability of the helpless in the country’s cleanest city. The CCTV footage of the incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about safety in the city.
Additional DCP Alok Sharma confirmed the woman’s mental state and the challenges faced by the police in gathering information about her. The accused has been apprehended.
Sharma stated that the police were alerted by a child who spotted the naked woman wandering in the city’s Neelkanth Colony around 3:45 am on Monday. Responding swiftly, the patrolling Sub-Inspector reached the location and rushed the woman to MY Hospital in a 108 ambulance.
After a medical examination, it came to light that the woman had been sexually assaulted and she was mentally ill. This prompted the police to launch an investigation.
After scrutinizing CCTV footage from Neelkanth Colony, the police discovered that around 3 am, a young man was seen leading the woman by holding her hand near Jinsi Kali Masjid. Subsequently, at approximately 3:45 am, the woman was seen returning naked, followed by a cyclist. The investigation led to the arrest of Sahil alias Sonu, son of Rambabu Soni, a resident of Janta Colony, Malharganj in Indore. He was identified as the man leading the woman in the CCTV footage.
Sharma shared that Sonu was arrested while he was wearing the same clothes as seen in the CCTV footage. During interrogation, Sonu confessed to being under the influence of drugs on Monday evening. He came across the woman while wandering around and lured her to an empty ground in Neelkanth Colony, where he raped her. Sonu shared that when he attempted to leave, the victim, in a state of distress, followed him.
