Thiruvananthapuram: 23-year-old Afan allegedly killed five people, including his brother, and seriously injured his mother on Monday in Kerala. His neighbour has expressed their disbelief over the incident. Those who know Afan described him as od-natured, mild-mannered and soft-spoken.
A local tea shop owner told a TV Channel that she could not believe he did this and that he cared for his brother a lot. "I cannot believe he did it. He was a good boy. There is not a single bad thing we can say about him," the woman said.
"Saw his (accused) younger brother yesterday afternoon also. Did not know what had happened till the police arrived," the woman added.
Other neighbours and relatives echoed similar sentiments, struggling to accept that Afan could be capable of such violence.
What Happened?
On Monday evening, Afan surrendered at Venjaramoodu police station, claiming that he killed 6 people using a machete and a hammer. The victims include his girlfriend, 13-year-old brother, grandmother, paternal uncle, aunt and mother. The police, upon hearing all this immediately reached the locations, three in total and found five people dead. Afan's mother survived the attack and is currently hospitalised.
Afan was also hospitalised at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College after reportedly claiming to have consumed poison It is reported that he was in huge debt due to business loss in the Gulf and asked for money from his family. However, the family rejected his demands.
Cops are also probing if Afan was addicted to drugs and any other possible motive behind the murders.
