Moscow (Russia), March01 (ANI) Ophthalmic surgeons work with scientists at Sechenov University to transplant an artificial cornea into a rabbit. If successful, such an implant could be used in surgeries for people suffering from eye diseases. This stage was preceded by long and meticulous process to obtain the innovative material. The initial trials were not successful, but a new operation has shown that the implant developed by the scientists has successfully integrated. Now the test subjects, and there are several of them, are being monitored. However, preliminary results already allow experts to talk about a revolution in ophthalmology. The raw material for the artificial cornea comes from the tendons of large cattle. Collagen solution is extracted from them and, under the influence of electric current, transformed into a foil.
