Star Indian batter Virat Kohli is on the brink of a major List A milestone, needing just one more run to become only the second Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 16,000 runs in the format.
Kohli currently has 15,999 runs from 342 List A matches at a remarkable average of 57.34. His tally includes 57 centuries and 84 half-centuries, underlining his consistency and longevity in limited-overs cricket.
The historic moment could unfold during Delhi’s Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. The match marks Kohli’s return to India’s premier domestic 50-over tournament in the 2025–26 season after a gap of nearly 15 years.
The former India captain is featuring in the tournament under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, following the BCCI’s directive that centrally contracted players participate in domestic competitions when available.
Kohli last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2010. During his earlier stint for Delhi, he appeared in 17 matches, batting in 16 innings and scoring 910 runs at an impressive average of 60.66, with a highest score of 124.
He enters the competition in fine form, having registered four successive fifty-plus scores in his most recent ODI outings. These include consecutive centuries against South Africa in the first two ODIs and an unbeaten 65 in the third match, which helped India secure the series 2–1.
Overall, Kohli enjoyed a prolific year in international cricket, amassing 651 runs in 13 innings at an average of 65.10. His run haul featured three centuries and four half-centuries, with a top score of 135 and a strike rate exceeding 96.
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter, Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first against Andhra Pradesh, setting the stage for Kohli to potentially script another landmark moment later in the match.
