New Delhi: Star Indias T20I batter Abhishek Sharma is all set to make a strong impact in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy as seen during Punjabs training session on Sunday. The 25-year-old T20I star tops the ICC T20I batting rankings list he is now aiming to leave his mark in the 50-over format. With an ODI debut yet to come the domestic tournament offers an opportunity to demonstrate his versatility and strengthen his case for national selection. Abhishek is all set to leave his mark in Vijay Hazare Trophy As per PTI report during Punjabs training session on Sunday Abhishek walked in to bat and casually asked teammate Gaurav Chaudhary a question reflecting his mindset and hinting at both his intent and innovative approach at the crease Field kya hai? he asked The tall off-spinner replied Mid-off single saving ke liye rakkha hai (mid-off fielder is to save singles). Abhishek batted for almost an hour after that and smashed the big shots as per the report suggested he smashed about 45 sixes at Anantam Cricket Ground. The session became a targeted spin-focused workout with Abhishek deliberately facing off-spinners leg-spinners and left-arm orthodox bowlers on a pitch that offered sharp turn for those who hit the correct lengths. He also spent about 40 minutes in the nets bowling left-arm spin adding to his practice session. Abhishek has cemented his position as an opener in T20Is The left handed batter has been picked in Indias squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup while the BCCI hasnt announced the ODI squad yet. This gives Abhishek only a small window to make an impression and push his case for selection through strong performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The challenge is significant as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma have cemented the opening positions with consistent form while Yashasvi Jaiswal recently reinforced his claim by scoring a century against South Africa after replacing an injured Gill.
