If you are a woman and travel on Delhi Government's DTC buses, you should get a 'Pink Smart Card' issued as soon as possible. This is because the Delhi Government may discontinue the physical 'Pink Tickets' in July. Consequently, possessing a Pink Smart Card will become mandatory for availing free travel. The Delhi Government claims that the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has achieved a major milestone by issuing over 1 million (10 lakh) 'Pink Saheli National Common Mobility Cards' (NCMC) within just 90 days of their launch. This initiative represents one of the fastest and largest-scale implementations of digital mobility solutions in the country.
Speaking to TV9 Bharatvarsh, Delhi's Transport Minister, Dr. Pankaj Singh, stated that there are approximately 1.4 million (14 lakh) female passengers in Delhi, of whom more than 1 million have already obtained their Pink Smart Cards. Dr. Pankaj Singh further informed that the Delhi Government would soon conduct a review and may subsequently discontinue the existing Pink Tickets, as the government has successfully met its target for issuing Pink Smart Cards. He added that cards for the remaining female passengers would also be issued very shortly.
**New EV Policy Coming Soon**
Delhi's Transport Minister, Dr. Pankaj Singh, also announced that Delhi's new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy is set to be released very soon. Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that, in alignment with the broader vision of citizen-centric governance championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government remains committed to providing the people of Delhi with superior and more transparent mobility services. Speaking during the event, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh remarked that the teams from the Transport Department and the DTC worked with unwavering dedication right from the inception to successfully implement this initiative. He noted that crossing the 1-million mark in such a short span of time is a matter of great satisfaction. The most gratifying aspect, he added, is that this facility has successfully reached our mothers and sisters. "This is not merely a travel card; it represents a significant step towards convenience, empowerment, and integrated mobility," he said.
Dr. Pankaj Singh emphasized that, beyond facilitating free bus travel, the Pink Saheli Card offers a multitude of additional benefits. Based on the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework, this card is rechargeable and can be utilized across the Delhi Metro, RRTS, and other NCMC-enabled systems, thereby creating a truly integrated mobility experience for female passengers.
**11,000 Cards Being Issued Daily**
The Minister stated that approximately 73 distribution centers across Delhi are currently issuing these cards, with about 11,000 cards being issued on a daily basis. He further added that should demand rise, the government stands ready to further expand both reach and capacity. "Our priority is clear: every eligible woman who wishes to avail herself of this facility must receive a card. If demand exceeds projections, we are fully prepared to scale up operations. The DTC possesses the necessary personnel, systems, and operational readiness to support such extensive coverage."
Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh further emphasized that this digital transformation would facilitate improved public transport planning and governance. The data and systems generated through this initiative will contribute to evidence-based decision-making aimed at optimizing bus deployment, route planning, last-mile connectivity, and overall mobility accessibility across Delhi.
During the event, the DTC also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Aravat Research Foundation (ARF) at IIT Kanpur for the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Delhi Transport Stack and the 'One Delhi' app. According to the Delhi Government, this collaboration will bolster Delhi's digital public transport ecosystem by leveraging advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to support key platforms such as the 'One Delhi' app, ONDC-based bus ticketing systems, and other passenger services.
**DTC Aims to Further Strengthen its Systems**
Describing this partnership as a significant step toward institutionalizing transport technology management, the Transport Minister stated that the convergence of technology and public service would help create a robust and more reliable mobility ecosystem for Delhi. "We endeavor to make the DTC's digital systems more robust, professional, and future-ready through the strategic application of technology, enhanced connectivity, and modern management practices." This partnership will enhance the passenger experience, bolster service reliability, and support a smarter public transportation plan for Delhi.
The Minister further stated that the Delhi government is committed to implementing citizen-centric transport reforms and modern mobility solutions aimed at improving ease of travel and the delivery of public services for the people of Delhi. On March 2, 2026, the Delhi government launched the ‘Pink Saheli NCMC Card.’ This initiative was introduced to provide female passengers in Delhi with a modern, digital, and hassle-free means of availing free travel on DTC buses. The Delhi government asserts that this initiative—based on the framework of the ‘National Common Mobility Card’ (NCMC)—further reinforces the government's commitment to providing accessible, technology-enabled, and passenger-friendly public transportation.
