New Delhi: Lionel Messi appears to be headed to Saudi Arabia with latest sources indicating a Saudi Pro League team Al-Ahli is in a negotiation with the Argentine superstar. Though the 38-year-old is still under contract with Inter Miami until the end of 2025 speculation of a potential transfer is now again on the agenda making the headlines. Lionel Messi has been on a spectacular form since joining Inter Miami with 52 goals and 25 assists in 64 matches at the MLS club since the start of the season in 2023. French publication L’Équipe frames that Saudi side Al-Ahli has been on the pursuit of the Argentine star over the past few weeks in an attempt to attract the star to the Saudi Pro League. It is not the first time Messi has come into contact with Saudi Pro League. In 2023 he is said to have snubbed a record deal with Al-Hilal who later on signed Brazilian legend Neymar Jr. Nevertheless Al-Ahli are now confident of closing the deal and are trying desperately to persuade Messi into making what will therefore be one of the most sensational transfers of his career. Lionel Messi to play against Cristiano Ronaldo again? Though the economic details of the recent proposal have not yet been revealed it is stated that the interest of Al-Ahli to acquire Messi is not a joke. In case of Argentine maestro shifting to Saudi Pro League he would join a superstar-laden group with the likes of Roberto Firmino Riyad Mahrez Edouard Mendy and Ivan Toney. The move would also pave way to an exciting resurrection of his famed mega-rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo. The recent extension of agreement between Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr will allow the player to spend his last years in Saudi Arabia until 2027. In the event that Messi joins the SPL there will be massive excitement all over the football world which will provide an opportunity to the fans to see the classic Messi-Ronaldo rivalry play out once again in the Middle East. The last time Messi played was at the FIFA Club World Cup with Inter Miami where his team lost 4-0 in the last-16 against his old club and current winners of the UEFA-Champions League Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
