Shalwar Qameez Entry Ban Sparks Celeb Backlash

Popular Pakistani celebrities Mishi Khan and Yasir Hussain have taken to social media to strongly condemn a Karachi restaurant for allegedly refusing entry to a customer dressed in the national attire, Shalwar Qameez.

The incident came to light after Advocate Abdul Latif reported being denied entry at a private restaurant in Karachi. According to reports, the restaurant staff insulted the advocate, reportedly saying, “We don’t serve pendus,” and asked him to leave or face forcible removal. The customer has since served the restaurant with a legal notice.

In response, Mishi Khan posted a video on her official Instagram, expressing outrage at the discriminatory behavior. She questioned the mindset of the restaurant staff, stating:

“I’m shocked. How can anyone call our national dress cheap? We’re going through an economic crisis, we lack jobs and resources — and yet some people behave like they’re living in Europe. Should we wear bikinis or hot pants just to be accepted now?”

She vowed to uncover and expose the name of the restaurant involved.

Yasir Hussain echoed her sentiments, pointing out a growing trend of disrespect towards Shalwar Qameez in upscale clubs and restaurants across Pakistan. He criticized what he called the “Wanna-be Angrez (British)” attitude:

“There’s clear discrimination against our traditional attire. Just like they look down on the Urdu language, they’re now doing the same with Shalwar Qameez.”

The incident has sparked a wave of backlash online. Many social media users demanded the name of the restaurant be revealed and called for a public boycott. One user claimed the venue is located at Karachi’s Do Darya, sharing a similar experience. Others praised Mishi Khan for taking a stand, with several fans pledging to protest by visiting the restaurant in Shalwar Qameez.
