Aston Villa and Brest have reached an agreement over the signing of Netherlands international goalkeeper Marco Bizot (34), according to a report from The team. The 34-year-old has been allowed to travel to Birmingham this Sunday to secure his move away from Stade Brestois after four seasons spent in Brittany. Aston Villa will send a jet to Brest to pick up Bizot in the afternoon. The terms of Bizot’s contract are yet to be ratified.
Bizot was set to enter his final contract with Brest. The Ligue 1 side allowed the Dutch international to leave this summer as a way to acknowledge his contributions. The outlet understands that Bizot will be Aston Villa’s back-up goalkeeper, but he won’t necessarily be Emiliano Martinez’s understudy as the 2022 World Cup winner could still leave Villa Park this summer.
Brest will now scour the market for a new No. 1 goalkeeper. Ouest-France reported that Nantes’ Albon Lafont was of interest.
