Atlético Madrid are considering a move for Botafogo attacking midfielder Thiago Almada (24), according to a report from The team. The 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina has been loaned to Eagle Football-owned Lyon in the second part of the 2024-2025 campaign, as the Ligue 1 side circumvented the transfer ban that the DNCG imposed on them.
The 24-year-old is unlikely to be loaned out again to Gones as Lyon own Almada’s economic rights in the Eagle Football portfolio. Almada has been made to wait for his complex future to be made clearer. However, Botafogo are reportedly in charge of finding him an exit route, as he is under contract with the Brazilian outfit.
SL Benfica were reportedly interested, but the Portuguese giants are reportedly unlikely to submit an offer north of €30m. The situation could play out right into Atlético Madrid’s hands as The team understands that signing for Diego Simeone’s Colchoneros has become a very credible option for Almada in recent hours.
