
Sai Sudharsan is the newest great young Indian batting prospect. A batter with the correct technique and “temperament”. The Chennai-born youngster is still very well in his youth and promises to be the next great Indian all-format batter.
Sudharsan has done well in domestic league across all formats. He even won the IPL 2025 Orange Cap, after scoring over 750 runs in a season, becoming the youngest player in league history to reach that milestone. The 23-year-old now faces the greatest Test of his short career, getting his first taste of Test cricket in England.

Sai sudharsan career overview
Born on October 15, 2001, Sai Sudharsan comes from a family of athletes. Having impressed in junior cricket at district and state level, he first came onto many people’s radar during the Covid-19 pandemic when he made his T20 debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2021-22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after having his breakout season in the 2021 TNPL. He would also play the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy in the coming year.
For IPL 2022, he was bought by the newly formed Gujarat Titans for his base price of Rs. 20 lakh. He even played five matches that season, scoring 145 runs, including a half-century. Meanwhile, GT went on to win the IPL title in their inaugural season.
At this point, he had become a consistent opener for his domestic team across all formats. In IPL 2023, he played eight matches and scored 362 runs at an average of over 50, scoring three half-centuries, including a brilliant 96 in the final against CSK.
In December of that year, Sudharsan made his Indian Cricket Team debut as he played in the ODI series in South Africa agaisnt the Proteas. In the three-match series, he made two half-centuries, including one on his debut. The next year, he would play his one and only T20I against Zimbabwe and didn’t get a chance to bat in that match.
In IPL 2024, while the Titans failed to do well after consecutive finals appearances, Sai Sudharsan was a lone spark in their season, making 527 runs in 12 games and scoring his first century in the league that season as well.
In IPL 2025, Sai stood on the promise of him being one of the best young batters in India. HE led the star-studded GT batting order in runs. Not only that, he won the Orange Cap for scoring 759 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.21 and a strike rate of 156.17.
His IPL performance, coupled with how well he had been doing in the domestics, booked Sai a place in the Indian Cricket Team for the five-match Test series in England. He even played the first Test, but was unceremoniously dropped after not performing well. Now, he has returned to the playing XI for the fourth Test
