Skanda Shashthi Vrat Katha
Once, the powerful asura Tarakasura, by doing hard penance, received the boon from Brahma Ji that only Shiva's son would be able to kill him, but Shiva was absorbed in penance in the disconnection of his wife Sati. Here Tarakasura started torture in the three worlds. The gods worried and inspired Goddess Parvati for harsh penance with the help of Vishnu and Brahma so that Shiva would marry her. Pleased with the penance of Mother Parvati, Lord Shiva accepted marriage. Skanda (Karthikeya), son of his marriage, was given special military training and was made the commander of the gods at a very young age. Lord Skanda killed Tarakasura with his strategy, valor and leadership. The tradition of Skanda Shashthi fast started to remember this victory. This day is considered a symbol of courage, restraint and protecting religion.
