Deep Look: Yankees Make MLB History with Another 9-Homer Game

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Bronx Bombers lived up to their name in record-breaking fashion Tuesday night, blasting their way into the Major League Baseball history books with a stunning display of power.

In a 13-3 rout over the Tampa Bay Rays, the New York Yankees launched nine home runsmatching a franchise record and becoming the first team in MLB history to achieve that feat twice in a single season.

The setting may have been Tampa, but the dominance was all New York.

Caballero’s Revenge Game

José Caballero, who played 86 games with the Rays earlier this season and hit just two home runs, returned to George M. Steinbrenner Field in pinstripes — and made it count. The 22-year-old utility player smacked two home runs in his first career multi-homer game.

His night added a sweet twist of irony, returning to haunt the team that had recently let him go.

Bats Erupt: Stanton, Bellinger, and Judge Go Deep

Caballero wasn’t the only star of the night. Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger each crushed two homers of their own, while Aaron Judge belted his 40th of the season — a towering shot nearly reaching the batter’s eye.

In the first inning, Judge, Bellinger, and Stanton went back-to-back-to-back against Rays starter Shane Baz, electrifying the crowd of 10,046 at George M. Steinbrenner Field — the Yankees’ spring training home and temporary host while Tropicana Field undergoes repairs.

That first-inning flurry also set another record: the Yankees became the first team in MLB history to hit three consecutive home runs in the first inning three times in a season. They had previously done so on March 29 and April 29.

Milestones and Historic Context

This marks just the fourth time a team has hit nine or more homers in a game. The all-time record remains 10set by the Toronto Blue Jays on September 14, 1987.

The Yankees first notched nine longballs in their March 29 home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers in a 20-9 blowoutsetting the tone for what has become a thunderous 2025 campaign.

Now, with another nine-homer performance, they’ve carved out a unique place in league history.

Stadium, Rain, and Conditions

Tuesday’s game was initially delayed nearly two hours due to rain, but the storm quickly passed — and the real storm came from Yankee bats. Playing at George M. Steinbrenner Field gave New York a familiar feel, even on the road.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Ben Rice also homered for New York, adding to a deep lineup that has now helped the Yankees extend their winning streak to four games.

The 2025 Yankees Are Built for Power

With elite power from top to bottom, the Yankees continue to demonstrate why they’re one of the most feared lineups in baseball. Their ability to hit in bunches — and do so on historic levels — is making headlines, shattering records, and positioning them as serious contenders.
