The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday invited applications for two posts in the five -member Senior Men’s National Selection Committee and four in the women’s panel. The eligibility criteria for the post of selector have not changed over the years. Applicants should play at least seven Test matches or 30 first class matches. Apart from this, the names of candidates playing at least 10 ODIs and 20 first class matches can also be considered.
A BCCI official said, “The selectors’ contracts are renewed every year. We have not yet decided which selectors will be replaced, but the process will be initiated soon.” Currently, the men’s selection committee is headed by former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar and includes SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra and S Sharat.
The committee has recently selected the team for the Asia Cup. The board has also invited applications for a post in the Men Junior Cricket Selection Committee, which is responsible for selecting the teams of the age group (under-22) for camps, tours and tournaments. The BCCI has also invited applications for four posts in the Women’s National Selection Committee.
The current selection committee includes Neetu David (Chairman), Renu Margaret, Aarti Vaidya, Kalpana Venkatachar and Shyama De So. Reliable sources have said that they are the only members who will be retained in the committee. The current committee selected the team for the ODI World Cup on Tuesday. The ODI World Cup will be played in India and Sri Lanka from next month. The last date for submission of all applications is 10 September.
Male National Cricket Team Selector (2 posts): Members of Senior Men’s Selection Committee will be responsible for selecting Team India in all formats (Tests, one ODI, T20 International and any other format fixed by BCCI).
Eligibility criteria for male national cricket team selector
At least 7 Test matches or 30 first class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 first class matches.
Have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.
No BCCI has been a member of any BCCI Cricket Committee for a total of 5 years.
Women’s National Cricket Team Selector (4 posts): A member of the Women’s Selection Committee will oversee the selection of Team India (Senior Women) in all formats and age groups. The role also includes checking coaches and collaborative staff, preparing evaluation reports and ensuring a strong bench strength.
Eligibility criteria for women’s national cricket team selector
Former players who have represented the Indian women’s national team.
Have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.
No BCCI has been a member of any BCCI Cricket Committee for a total of 5 years.
National Selector – Junior Men (1 post)
The member of the Junior Cricket Committee will be responsible for selecting the teams of the age group (under-22) for camps, tours and tournaments. The role also includes organizing junior tournaments, appointment of captains and associate staff and communicating moral values among young players.
Eligibility criteria
Former players who played at least 25 first class matches.
Have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.
No BCCI has been a member of any BCCI Cricket Committee for a total of 5 years.
