Discussion on OBC Reservation in Bhopal
On Thursday, Jitu Patwari, the President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress, expressed his approval of the discussions held during a multi-party meeting at the Chief Minister's residence in Bhopal regarding the allocation of 27% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC). He noted that it is encouraging to see leaders rise above party lines to agree on implementing the reservation. Patwari emphasized that those who have delayed this issue for six years should face consequences. He also stated that officials and lawyers who misled the process and wasted government funds should be held accountable.
Post-Meeting Insights
Following the meeting, Patwari mentioned that the Chief Minister convened the gathering to discuss the legal hurdles posed by the Congress party regarding OBC reservation. There are various arguments surrounding this matter, with differing opinions from parties and lawyers. Therefore, it is commendable that all involved lawyers are willing to come together, discuss, and explore ways to expedite the implementation of OBC reservation. He pointed out that the Supreme Court has questioned who is obstructing the enforcement of the reservation law. The consensus during the multi-party meeting was to ensure the law is enacted and to take action against those who have stalled it for six years. Misleading officials and lawyers should be penalized due to the significant financial waste incurred by the government in this issue. He further noted that the discussion on implementing reservation beyond party boundaries is a positive development.
Significance of the Meeting
Madhya Pradesh Minister Prahlad Patel highlighted that this is the first instance where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has called a multi-party meeting on the OBC reservation issue. The meeting concluded with a decision that lawyers from all parties will collaborate with the Advocate General to present their arguments for implementing the reservation. Continuous efforts have been made to establish OBC reservation in the state, but this is the first time a collective meeting has been organized for this purpose. Chief Minister Yadav deserves recognition for this initiative, and it was agreed that lawyers from all political factions will work together in the Supreme Court with the Advocate General. The government has always aimed to provide 27% reservation to OBCs, and while this issue was previously addressed separately, today marks a unified effort. I extend my gratitude to all party leaders for their participation.
