New Delhi: T20 cricket is the biggest attraction of this season. The T20 World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka at the end of the year but before that the Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format in the UAE from September 9. This eight-team tournament will be special but the focus will be primarily on the big teams like India Pakistan Sri Lanka Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Lets take a look at Pakistans preparations. Pakistan Team with a New Approach This is a new-look Pakistan team. Significant changes have been seen since the appointment of Mike Hesson as the head coach of the limited-overs team. Hesson has not included Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the squad as their style of batting doesnt suit the fast-paced T20 format. In their place he has selected batsmen from the PSL who can give the team a strong start. Salman Agha has been given the captaincy but he is a more cautious batsman compared to Babar and Rizwan. Players like Fakhar Zaman Hasan Nawaz Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris are capable of giving the team a quick start. The bowling department also has a considerable variety but the lack of a charismatic personality could make this team vulnerable against strong opposition. Focus on Saim Ayub The 23-year-old Saim Ayub reminds one of Saeed Anwar with some of his shots especially the flicks and cover drives. He emerged as an exciting batsman for Pakistan and grabbed everyones attention with a brilliant start in the PSL. He has lacked consistency but Hesson has faith that he will add firepower to the team by scoring runs quickly. His partnership with Sahibzada Farhan could be a surprise package for the team. Sufiyan Muqeems Spin Magic Pakistan usually relies on its fast bowling but this time the team also has strong options in the spin department. Left-arm wrist-spinner Sufiyan Muqeem is familiar with the UAE conditions as he plays for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. The 25-year-old Muqeem can trouble batsmen with his varied bowling style. Together with the enigmatic spinner Abrar Ahmed they could form a formidable bowling partnership in the middle overs. Story Highlights The Asia Cup 2025 will begin in the UAE on September 9. Major changes to the Pakistan team after the appointment of Mike Hesson as coach. Babar Azam and Rizwan dropped; faith placed in new batsmen. Saim Ayub and Sufiyan Muqeem could be the teams surprise packages.
