The Mumbai Police started a quick investigation after Sahar International Airport and Nair Hospital received suspected bomb threatened email on Saturday (6 September). According to officials, the email claimed that a bomb was planted in the airport washroom. Security agencies became active as soon as the warning was received. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) carried out extensive search operations at both the airport and the hospital. However, no suspicious item was recovered from any place.
Police said that in the initial investigation, the email appears to be sent from fake ID. Now the cyber cell has been handed over an investigation into the case, so that the origin of the email can be ascertained and the accused can be identified.
Officials said no suspicious item has been found so far, but security has been tightened in all sensitive areas of Mumbai as caution. Especially airports, railway stations and major government buildings are being monitored.
The incident took place at a time when the festival season is near across the country and security agencies are already on high alert. Police say that no negligence will be taken and strict action will be taken against those who send threatened emails.
