Brain Health Tips: Nowadays, lifestyle has changed the lives of people. Everyone is suffering from some disease or another. Let us tell you about the disease that one out of every three people is suffering from.

Why One in Three Struggles Mentally: Do you know that every third person in the world has some kind of brain-related problem? This has recently come to light from the 2024 report of WHO (World Health Organization) and Lancet Neurology. This report states that neurological diseases (i.e. diseases related to the brain and nervous system) have now become the biggest cause of disease and disability in the world. Let us tell you about it in detail.

How many people are affected by brain-related problems?

According to WHO, in the year 2021, about 3 billion people around the world were suffering from some brain or nervous system problem. This means that 1 out of every 3 people has this kind of problem. That is, if there are 3 people standing around you, then at least one of them is likely to have a brain-related problem.

What brain problems are involved?

Brain related problems are not of just one type. It includes many types of conditions, such as-

Stroke – When the blood supply to the brain stops.

Migraine- Recurrent severe headache.

Diabetic Neuropathy – Damage to the nerves due to diabetes.

Epilepsy - Having seizures.

Alzheimer's & Dementia - Memory and thinking ability are affected.

Apart from these, there are many other types of problems which directly affect the brain and nervous system.

Why are these problems increasing?

The report states that the biggest reason for this is changing lifestyle, increasing stress, unhealthy diet, alcohol and smoking habits and living longer. Earlier people had a shorter lifespan but now with longer life the risk of brain-related diseases increases even more.

Why is it important to pay attention to this?

The brain and nervous system are the control centers of the body. If there is a problem in it, then a person's ability to think and understand, movement, speaking power, memory and even heartbeat can be affected. WHO says that if these problems are controlled in time, then millions of lives can be saved.

What should be done?

  • According to doctors, some habits are very important to keep the brain healthy:
  • Eat a healthy diet and avoid processed foods.
  • Exercise at least 30 minutes daily.
  • Stay away from alcohol and smoking.
  • Get enough sleep.

If you have problems like persistent headache, memory loss, or dizziness, consult a doctor immediately.

The WHO report clearly shows that the alarm has been sounded in the world regarding brain health. Now is the time that we should take care of our brain as seriously as we do our heart and body. If we become careful from now on, we can avoid big problems in the future.
