Synopsis

Weeks after Charlie Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University, a video of him discussing autism has resurfaced, coinciding with President Trump's impending announcement on the issue. Kirk, a staunch Trump ally, characterized autism as a potential "superpower," highlighting the ability of individuals with high-functioning autism to focus intensely and excel.

In the viral video, Charlie Kirk, who was a close ally of US President Trump, called autism a “superpower.”
A video showing Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, speaking on autism has gone viral on social media after US President Donald Trump said that his administration is going to make a big announcement about it on Monday (September 22, 2025).

While speaking during a dinner hosted by the conservative American Cornerstone Institute, Trump said, “We have to make the announcement; it’s so BIG. We can’t let people keep doing this. I don’t want to wait any longer. We don’t need anything more, and if it's wrong, it's not going to be wrong, but if it is wrong, it's fine that we have to do it because we are going to have an announcement on Autism on Monday.”

“It’s going to be Monday; I don’t want to do Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, and I think it’s going to be a very important announcement, and I think it’s going to be one of the most important things that we are going to do,” he added.

In the video doing the rounds on social media, Kirk, who was a close ally of Trump, called autism a “superpower” and said that people with autism, a disorder that involves some degree of difficulty with social interaction and communication, can focus on a task and get it done.

Kirk, a right-winger and a conservative activist, made these remarks during an event while interacting with a student who shared he was autistic but was “not clinically diagnosed.”

What did Charlie Kirk say on autism

Responding to the student’s query on the disorder, the Turning Point USA founder said, “I love your attitude, and you should be applauded for that because I think that is really important. You do not allow a diagnosis to become a label that dominates your life. Don't look at what they call autism as only a negative; it can also be a superpower.”

“I know a lot of people with high-functioning autism who are able to focus on a task for nine hours and get it done. I would not, in fact. I know people with high-functioning autism that are some of the most successful, some of the best team members we have at Turning Point USA that were told their whole life, “This is going to be a disability; this will put you aside,” and they are the ones that are the most creative, and so I think you should look at autism as you describe it, as an unrealized superpower, not as a disability,” he added.

What is autism?

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a condition related to brain development that affects how people see others and socialize with them. According to the National Health Service (NHS UK), autistic people may act in a different way than other people.

The people suffering with this condition may find it hard to communicate and interact with other people, find it hard to understand how other people think or feel, find things like bright lights or loud noises overwhelming, stressful, or uncomfortable, get anxious or upset about unfamiliar situations and social events, take longer to understand information, and do or think the same things over and over.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a diverse group of conditions. They are characterized by some degree of difficulty with social interaction and communication. Other characteristics are atypical patterns of activities and behaviors, such as difficulty with transition from one activity to another, a focus on details, and unusual reactions to sensations.
