Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar.

He said the process was completed ahead of the upcoming elections, which will be held before November 22, when the current Assembly's term ends.

Kumar made these remarks during a press conference in Patna on Sunday, where he reviewed election preparations and consulted with stakeholders.

Kumar announced that no polling station in Bihar will have more than 1,200 voters.

He also said that voters won't be allowed to carry mobile phones inside polling booths.

In a major change to the voting process, Kumar said EVM ballot papers will now have colored serial number fonts and candidate photos for easier identification.

Kumar also lauded the role of booth-level officers for completing the SIR process successfully. He said they played a vital role in purifying voter lists and maintaining their accuracy through this exercise.

The CEC's visit came after the Election Commission released its final electoral roll, which was prepared during a three-month SIR process.
