Several regions of Karnataka, including the state capital Bengaluru, are on high alert as weather authorities forecast moderate to heavy rainfall over the coming week. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a seven-day advisory, urging residents to remain cautious and prepared.

According to KSNDMC, scattered light to moderate rain is expected across the state, often accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Coastal districts, Malnad, and the southern interior regions are likely to experience heavy rainfall at isolated locations from today through October 12. On Wednesday, light to moderate rain is expected in multiple parts of the state, creating conditions that may affect normal life and transport.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had released district-wise warnings, predicting rainfall trends for the next five days. Meanwhile, Skymet Weather has highlighted that October is historically Bengaluru’s second wettest month, and rainfall intensity is likely to increase in the coming days.

Bengaluru has witnessed above-average rainfall during several Octobers over the past decade. Between 2010 and 2020, the city recorded unusually high rainfall, including 343.8 mm in 2014 and 385.7 mm in 2017. Based on data from 1991 to 2020, Bengaluru’s average October rainfall has risen to 186.4 mm, compared to the earlier 168.3 mm (1981-2010). The trend of above-average rainfall has continued between 2021 and 2024, with last year’s Air Force Station Yelahanka recording a record 157 mm in a single day.

Skymet predicts that Bengaluru could receive around 100 mm of rain between October 8 and 12, 2025. This surge is attributed to ongoing meteorological factors, including a cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu, a trough stretching from coastal Andhra Pradesh to south interior Karnataka, and the potential formation of another cyclonic system over the north Bay of Bengal on October 8. This new system could influence rainfall patterns along the east coast and northern Tamil Nadu.

Authorities have advised citizens to remain vigilant, avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas, and follow local advisories. With the persistent weather systems affecting the region, the coming week is expected to see intermittent heavy showers, strong winds, and occasional thunderstorms across Karnataka.
