A dog owner who brought home a puppy has melted people's hearts after filming the way his existing pet reacted.

The man already owned a Great Dane, who could be seen responding to the puppy in an adorable way - leaving members of the public praising the adorable bond between the two animals.

The footage of the Great Dane was shared on Claiborne's TikTok account, with over 1,000 likes accumulated on the heart-warming clip.

Some suggested it was a perfect example of "love at first sight" while others commended the Great Dane for being "gentle" with the new addition to the family.

The TikTok clip has captivated members of the public

The new pup, named Weezie, met the Great Dane Angus, and the interaction between the pair makes it seem like they will be friends for life.

The footage is captioned: "Love at first sight. He's so gentle with her."

Members of the public were delighted to see how well the dogs were getting on and suggested the Great Dane was very sweet.

One person wrote: "He is being so sweet." Another added that the dog was "adorable" and their interaction with the new addition to the family is a positive sign.

A third person wrote: "I swear Danes just love babies. Ours is sort of a jerk but when he brought her a baby she fell in love immediately."

A fourth person agreed, adding: "I totally agree with this, My Marjorie thinks anything small is her baby. But all my Danes love the puppies."

The PDSA has confirmed Great Danes are exceptionally "intelligent and eager" to master new abilities and are superb when forming bonds with other animals if provided adequate time.

Their website states: "Great Danes are an incredibly loving breed and form strong attachments to their families, but are also known for being sensitive and may not adapt well to new situations.

"This is why it's really important to socialise your Great Dane with different experiences, people and dogs from a young age. This will help your dog develop a well-rounded, easy going personality and let their loyal and loving nature shine."

This encompasses providing the Great Dane with "right socialisation from a young age", with the PDSA verifying these animals aren't recognised for displaying hostility and typically coexist harmoniously with other creatures.

They continued: "Generally speaking, Great Danes are not known for being aggressive.

"Given the right socialisation from a young age, your Great Dane should get along perfectly fine with other dogs.

"If your Great Dane has lived with a cat from a young age, they should get along fine. Great Danes do have a fairly strong prey drive, though, so all introductions need to be done very carefully. Never leave your Great Dane unsupervised with smaller pets."
