
Small towns have left metro cities behind in online shopping.
Online shopping is not limited to metro cities only. Now its craze is continuously increasing even in small cities. Especially in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Its hallmark was seen this time in the Diwali festive season. According to a report, this time the maximum number of online orders have been seen from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. This means that in terms of e-shopping, small cities have left even metro cities behind. This time a lot of e-shopping has been done from small towns. Small towns won
This year, online Diwali shopping in India has been seen more than non-metro cities. The special thing is that 3/4th of the total orders were seen from these cities. According to industry data, Tier 3 cities alone contributed more than half of the total orders. Logistics intelligence platform Clickpost analyzed more than 4.25 crore shipments. In which it was found that non-metro cities are now giving more importance to e-commerce shopping during the festive season. Quoting PTI, the report said that in 2025, Tier 3 cities alone accounted for 50.7 percent of all orders. The share of Tier 2 is 24.8 percent. This means that the share of small cities or rather non-metro in the total order volume of the country is about three-fourth (74.7 percent).
How orders increased from small cities
Festive shopping was boosted by events such as Durga Puja, where fashion orders increased 14.3 per cent in the week leading up to the puja, and Karva Chauth, when purchases of beauty products almost doubled fashion spending. Despite increasing volumes, India's logistics network maintained an average delivery time of 2.83 days. On the same day, hyperlocal delivery also saw an increase of 42 percent year-on-year.
PTI quoted the report as saying that the average order value increased by 32.5 percent from Rs 3,281 in 2024 to Rs 4,346 in 2025. ClickPost's co-founder and CEO Naman Vijay said that smart players are already preparing for the next year. Under which, plans for same day delivery in hundreds of cities, 1 lakh orders and satisfaction in 1 minute etc. are included. ClickPost manages over 50 million shipments per month for over 450 brands including Nykaa, Puma, Caratlane and Walmart in India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the US.
