Now that the discussions about the 8th Pay Commission are intensifying, it is natural for the curiosity of employees and pensioners to increase. The biggest question is how much will the salary increase?

Fitment Factor: Pay Commission’s ‘Pivot’

The basic soul of any pay commission is its fitment factor. This is the coefficient by which the old basic pay is multiplied to determine the new basic pay. For example, in the 7th Pay Commission this factor was 2.57, due to which the minimum basic pay increased from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000.

Now that the 8th Pay Commission is being discussed, it is being estimated that the fitment factor could be between 1.92 to 2.86. However, considering tradition and economic reality, a factor of 1.92 is considered the most probable.

On the basis of grade pay, the basic salary of employees from Pay Level 1 to Pay Level 8 in the 7th Pay Commission, multiplied by the probable fitment factor of the 8th Pay Commission, the estimated new salary can be as follows:
