Prostate cancer is a serious disease of the male reproductive system. This cancer occurs in the prostate gland, which is located below the bladder and around the urethra. This gland helps in semen production. When the cells of this gland start growing abnormally, cancer develops. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), millions of men around the world are affected by prostate cancer every year, most of whom are above 50 years of age. Which men are at greater risk and what are their symptoms? Dr. Rohit Kapoor of Max Hospital said that men above 50 years of age are at the highest risk of prostate cancer. This risk is higher in men who have a family history of this disease or who have lifestyle diseases like obesity, smoking or unhealthy diet. In the initial stages, its symptoms are mild, such as frequent urination, difficulty in urinating or burning sensation during urination, blood in the urine, and pain in the thighs. In severe cases, symptoms like pain in bones, weight loss, and fatigue may appear. If these symptoms are ignored, cancer can spread to other parts of the body. Therefore, timely medical examination and treatment is important. How to prevent it? Get regular prostate checkups done after the age of 50. Eat a diet rich in fiber, fruits and green vegetables. Avoid meat, fried foods and fatty foods. Stay away from smoking. Do light exercise or walk every day. Get enough sleep and avoid stress.
