Big Bash League 2025–2026: Due to a knee injury he suffered in Chennai while training for the 2025–26 Big Bash League (BBL), former India off-spinner R Ashwin will not be participating. In a message to the Thunder supporters, Ashwin informed them that he would not be able to play in the 2018 BBL season because he needed to have a treatment and it would take some time for him to recover fully.
“I regret having to miss BBL 15.” “My current focus is on getting better and returning stronger,” Ashwin said in a statement released by the Sydney Thunder. “I appreciate the hospitality I’ve already received from the Thunder family and supporters. Even though he won’t be able to participate in the next season, Ashwin continued, “Trent (Copeland) and the entire management made me feel like part of the club from our very first conversation.” He hopes to go to Australia to be around the group.
“I’d want to hang out with the group later in the season and meet the fans, if my travel and rehabilitation schedule permit. “I hope both Thunder teams have a fantastic year,” Ashwin said. Thunder general manager Trent Copeland was devastated to hear of Ashwin’s injury, particularly considering the opportunities that might have arisen if the 39-year-old had participated in the competition.
The news of Ash’s knee injury, which has prevented him from playing in BBL 15, upset everyone at Sydney Thunder. We hope he recovers quickly. Ash made his dedication to Thunder evident as soon as we chatted with him. We intend to establish a lasting connection with him, introduce him to our supporters at events, and have him join us in our dugout for a portion of BBL 15.
“Even though it is frustrating for the club, we have assembled two teams that are capable of winning championships, and we anticipate building on our recent success in WBBL 11 and BBL 15. “With the strength of the squads at our disposal ahead of the new BBL and WBBL editions, we can’t wait to get back in front of our fans in Western Sydney for two massive campaigns,” he said.
In the 15th edition, the Thunder will have three foreign players: Shadab Khan, Lockie Ferguson, and Sam Billings.
