New Delhi: Spotify has launched a new feature that allows Android users to share their favourite music and podcasts directly to WhatsApp Status. Just as users can do on Instagram and Facebook Stories, this will surface songs, playlists, albums, podcasts, artist clips and even audiobooks on WhatsApp status for 24 hours. The shared post will show the track’s title, cover art, and an “Open on Spotify” button so viewers can immediately listen to it within the streaming app.
When people tap on a WhatsApp Status, they will also hear a 30-second audio preview of the underlying track to help them determine whether they’d like to explore the song elsewhere. The update is scheduled to become available for all free and premium users worldwide in the coming weeks.
How to share Spotify tracks on WhatsApp
In the Spotify app, users need to tap the “Share” button next to a track or playlist selection and choose WhatsApp among their choices. The song details and album art will be automatically included on Status. Once you’ve shared that, the content is going to remain visible for 24 hours, the same as any other WhatsApp Status update.
Spotify expands sharing options across platforms
In addition to the WhatsApp feature, Spotify unveiled a handful of other ways for users to share music and podcasts. Spotify users can now send songs, playlists or audiobooks to their friends with in-app messages. The platform has also enhanced Instagram integration, which means short audio snippets in Stories are listened to and added with just one tap.
Spotify is offering other social platforms like TikTok and Snapchat the same functionality. Soon, people will be able to post Spotify clips on TikTok videos or Snapchat Stories, which would make it easier than ever to share and discover music across platforms.
