In Bihar, the second and final phase of the assembly elections commenced on Tuesday morning, with voting taking place for 122 seats under strict security measures, as reported by an official. The voting began at 7 AM and will continue until 5 PM.
This phase will determine the electoral fate of 1,302 candidates, including several ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government. It is also viewed as a test of strength for the smaller allies of the National Democratic Alliance, including the Hindustani Awam Morcha led by Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and the National Lok Morcha headed by Rajya Sabha member Upendra Kushwaha.
Key Candidates and Constituencies
Notable candidates in this phase include former Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad from Katihar, former Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary from Sikandra, and several ex-ministers such as Vinay Bihari from Lauria, Narayan Prasad from Nautan, Shamim Ahmed from Narcatia, Rana Randhir Singh from Madhuban, Pramod Kumar from Motihari, and Sunil Kumar Pintu from Sitamarhi.
Additionally, constituencies like Kahalgawn, Narpatganj, Forbesganj, Mokama, and Valmikinagar are among those to watch closely today.
First Phase Voting Statistics
In the first phase of voting held on November 6, which covered 121 seats across 18 districts, approximately 64.66% voter turnout was recorded, marking the highest turnout in Bihar's history. This figure comes after a special intensive revision of the voter list, which reduced the number of voters in Bihar from 78.9 million to 74.2 million.
Exit Polls Announcement
Following the final phase of voting, the much-anticipated exit polls will be announced today. As voting concludes at 5 PM, predictions for Bihar's next government are expected to begin around 6:30 PM.
Due to regulations set by the Election Commission of India, predictions for exit polls are prohibited until voting has ended.
This high-stakes competition in Bihar will determine whether Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U)-BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) retains power or if Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led India Block can successfully unseat the nine-time Chief Minister.
