New Delhi: Authorities have apprehended two individuals and confiscated approximately 50 to 60 kilograms of explosives during a significant operation in Sector 56 of Faridabad, Haryana, as reported on Tuesday.
This operation follows a tragic incident on Monday evening, where an explosion occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi. A Hyundai i20, registered in Haryana, detonated near Gate No.1, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals and injuring many others.
The Crime Branch executed this operation in Faridabad, successfully recovering a substantial amount of explosive materials and arresting two suspects.
This event is linked to the recent dismantling of a terror module associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind in Faridabad, where authorities previously seized 2,900 kg of explosives along with a significant stockpile of weapons.
Additionally, police have detained two doctors from Jammu and Kashmir, Adil Ahmad Rather and Muzammil, who are believed to have connections with these terror groups. Their arrests reportedly triggered the panic that led to the recent blast.
A case has been filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) Sections 16 and 18, alongside provisions from the Explosives Act and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following a review of the investigation by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the case, reaffirming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.
In response to the heightened security situation, the Delhi Police have temporarily closed Gate Nos. 1 and 4 of the Lal Qila Metro Station to the public as security operations continue in the vicinity.
The Delhi Police are diligently working to reconstruct the timeline of events leading to the explosion, ensuring that all potential leads are thoroughly investigated.
