The director of Miss Universe Mexico, Jorge Figueroa, was placed under arrest in Thailand for advertising a gambling app.

The arrest came after Miss Universe executive director Nawat Itsaragrisil made accusations against Figueroa, following his clash with Miss Universe Mexico Fatima Bosch during the sash ceremony on Nov. 4, according to Hello! magazine.

Thailand press said Itsaragrisil took legal action to expose the Playtime gambling app, an official partner of the Miss Universe Organization in New York.

Thailand has a strict ban on the promotion of gambling applications.

Following Itsaragrisil’s complaint, Thai police arrested several individuals, including Figueroa.

The incident was later confirmed by actress and former Miss Universe Mexico director, Martha Cristiana, International Business Times newspaper said.

When asked by journalists about Figueroa’s arrest, she said simply, “That’s right.”

She said her sudden resignation from Miss Universe Mexico stemmed from inappropriate behavior involving Figueroa.

“I realized things were not going to work. There were too many conflicts. There was one person I called, at the time, ‘the rotten apple,’

“He was causing trouble for many young women who wanted to join the project and were not treated properly or respectfully. That person is Jorge Figueroa,” Cristiana said.

Neither the Miss Universe organization nor the Miss Universe Mexico production team has issued an official comment on the arrest.

Local reports say Figueroa have been released.
