Gurugram Metro: Reduction in number of underpasses.
Gurugram (Gurugram Metro): Under the Old Gurugram Metro project, now only two underpasses will be constructed instead of six.
There is a plan to build an underpass from Bakhtawar Chowk to Sector-9 in the first phase and from Bajhera Chowk to Cyber City in the second phase. Other underpasses will be constructed after the metro.
Construction of 28.5 kilometer metro route
Gurugram Metro: Construction of 28.5 km metro route
A 28.5 km long metro route from Millennium City Center to Cyber City will be built by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL). In the first phase, civil work is going on from Millennium City to Sector 9. The construction company has barricaded the roads for pile testing and pillar construction.
The company’s work is in progress and plans to complete it rapidly. Bakhtawar Chowk is located in the main corridor of the metro, which will have less impact on local traffic. Here the underpass and the metro pillar will be built together.
Underpass construction in the second phase
In the second phase, GMRL has been entrusted with the work of constructing five underpasses of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority in the Cyber City corridor from Sector 9. The team of GMDA and GMRL has inspected the underpass construction.
A GMRL official said that out of the five underpasses in the old city, four are not coming in the metro corridor. Except Bajhera Chowk, other squares are at some distance from the metro line.
impact on traffic
Due to the construction of underpass and metro, the traffic of this area will be affected, due to which people will have to face difficulties. Therefore, those underpasses should be constructed along the metro which come directly into the metro corridor.
In a recent high-level meeting, it was agreed that underpasses would be constructed first at Bakhtawar Chowk and Bajhera Chowk in the entire corridor.
metro logic
What is the logic of metro?
There are five underpasses in the old city. Sector-5 Chowk and Shitala Mata Chowk are at a distance of one kilometer. Excavation for the underpass will affect road traffic. The width of the road is also limited. Additionally, sewer and water lines will need to be relocated on a large scale beyond Bajhera Chowk and Delhi Road on Palam Vihar Road.
Due to this, the traffic of the old city will be greatly affected. Therefore, it would be better to work on the underpasses which are in the metro corridor first.
GMDA’s argument
This is GMDA’s argument
GMDA says that due to work with Metro, traffic will be affected only once. People will have to face inconvenience only once. For metro construction, excavation will have to be done for the pillars and later excavation will have to be done again for the underpass. Therefore, it would be better to do both the tasks together.
Information about construction sites
Underpasses are to be built at these places
Underpasses will be constructed at Railway Road Chowk in Sector 3A/4/5, Sector-5 Junction to Shitala Mata Road (one way), Bajgheda Road (Krishna Chowk), Rejangla Chowk, Old Delhi Road Junction and Bakhtawar Chowk. The estimated cost of construction of all these is around Rs 350 crore. This has been approved in the GMDA Board meeting chaired by the CM.
