Delhi: South Africa’s Test captain Temba Bavuma has returned to the team in the second ODI against India. He was rested for the first match played in Ranchi. A day before the second ODI to be held in Raipur, he was asked whether a long Test series could be played against a big team like India in future. Bavuma said that this decision is in the hands of the board and he hopes that a way is found for a longer Test series in the coming cycle. He jokingly said that he will not be able to play for much longer, so a decision should be taken soon.
Bavuma appealed for a longer test series
He said in the press conference that all the players want to play more cricket against big teams. This decision will have to be taken by Cricket South Africa. “Some of us are getting a bit old, so we should not delay the opportunity to play another four-match Test series against India,” he said with a laugh.
Bavuma also praised all-rounder Marco Jensen. Jensen is in excellent form in this tour. After playing an inning of 95 runs in the Guwahati Test, he kept the team in the match by scoring 70 runs in just 39 balls in the first ODI. He said that Jensen can be included among the top all-rounders in all three formats and he is continuously improving.
India had won by 17 runs in the first ODI, but Bavuma believes that there was not much difference between the two teams. He said that India’s experienced players performed brilliantly, but South Africa was also not far away from the competition.
