Shubman and Pandya recover from injury, return to Indian team for T20 series against South Africa

Raipur, 3 December. Star batsman Shubman Gill, who was leading the Test team before suffering neck spasms, and experienced all-rounder Hardik Pandya have recovered from their injuries, making their return to the squad announced on Wednesday for the upcoming five-match T20 series against South Africa. Suryakumar Yadav is the regular T20 captain of India.

BCCI Gill’s participation will depend on the approval of ‘Centre of Excellence’

Gill was injured during the first Test match played against South Africa in Kolkata. He missed the second Test played in Guwahati and the ongoing ODI series due to a neck injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), however, said in a statement that Gill’s participation will depend on his fitness being cleared by the BCCI’s ‘Centre of Excellence’.

Pandya proved his fitness during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match

Pandya, who did not play in the Asia Cup 2025 final and the five-match series in Australia, also returned to the Indian team after proving his fitness during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Punjab in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The first match of the 5 match series will be played in Cuttack on 9th December.

The first match of this five-match series between India and South Africa will be played in Cuttack on December 9. Other matches will be played in Chandigarh (11 December), Dharamshala (14 December), Lucknow (17 December) and Ahmedabad (19 December).
