Aizawl, Dec 6: An American journalist has been hospitalized following injuries sustained from a landmine explosion in the northern Chin state of Myanmar. Hospital representatives confirmed that Collin Mayfield is currently receiving care at Ebenezer Hospital.
Mayfield was brought to the hospital on Monday after being evacuated from Tedim township, where he was reporting on the ongoing conflicts between the Myanmar military and local resistance forces. Medical professionals indicated that he required surgical intervention but is now in stable condition. A medical source noted, “Two of his toes were severed in the explosion, but he is no longer in critical danger,” while also mentioning that a lengthy recovery is anticipated.
Reports suggest that Mayfield was injured on November 18 while he was with PDF-Zoland fighters near Kennedy Peak, a 2703-meter high point in Tedim township, when he inadvertently triggered a landmine during an active confrontation.
The area around Tedim township has experienced intense fighting in recent weeks, especially near the villages of Taingen and Bekang.
