Abu Dhabi, December 15: Before the IPL 2026 auction, Delhi Capitals has given clear indications about its preparations and strategy. Sunil Gupta, CEO of the franchise co-owned by JSW and GMR, said that the team is completely clear about its goals and will take thoughtful steps in the auction. Expressing confidence about the core players of the team, Gupta said that a strong group has been retained from the last season. Although Delhi Capitals narrowly missed out on making it to the playoffs, the team has taken the experiences gained from that campaign seriously. He said that with the lessons learned, the team will once again enter the field with new enthusiasm to achieve its objectives. Before the auction, Delhi Capitals has also completed an important trade with Rajasthan Royals. Under this deal, experienced left-handed batsman Nitish Rana has joined the team, while Donovan Ferreira has been sent to Rajasthan. Responding to this, Sunil Gupta said that Nitish’s IPL experience, understanding of domestic conditions and his contribution in different roles make him a good fit for the team. He welcomed Rana, calling it a “homecoming”. Delhi Capitals have a balance of Rs 21.80 crore ahead of the IPL 2026 auction and the team has to fill eight slots, which includes places for five overseas players. Gupta said that the scouting process of the team has been going on for a long time and priorities have been decided regarding the players. He also said that aggression is necessary in the auction, but flexibility is equally important as per the situation. Delhi Capitals management is confident that the remaining needs of the team will be met through the auction and a balanced and competitive squad will be created.
