India is going to showcase its advanced military capabilities during the 77th Republic Day Parade on January 26. On this occasion, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will publicly present for the first time the Long-Range Anti-Ship Hypersonic Glide Missile (LRAShM) developed for the Indian Navy. This state-of-the-art weapon system is considered an important achievement for India in the field of maritime warfare capability.

The LRAShM is said to have a strike range of approximately 1,500 kilometres, giving it a decisive edge to India’s naval power in the Indian Ocean region. Project Director A. According to Prasad Gaur, this missile flies at hypersonic speed and its speed is more than Mach 5. This speed and advanced glide technology make it an extremely difficult target for enemy radar systems.

The missile’s aerodynamic design enables it to glide efficiently over long distances. According to estimates, this weapon can hit a target located 1,500 kilometers away in just 15 minutes. It is designed to disable all classes of warships and is capable of carrying a variety of payloads, allowing it to target even highly protected naval platforms.

LRAShM’s performance on the battlefield underlines India’s indigenous defense capabilities and the goal of a self-reliant India. DRDO says that it is working on two parallel areas of hypersonic technology, which are hypersonic glide missile and hypersonic cruise missile. The organisation’s Advanced Lab Technology (ALT) laboratory is playing a key role in the Glide vehicle development and expansion of range to 3,000 to 3,500 km is said to be possible based on existing technical capability.

According to DRDO, hypersonic missiles will be an important part of future warfare, as their speed and maneuverability challenge conventional defense systems. India’s progress in this direction not only strengthens its naval deterrence capability but also strengthens its overall strategic position.

Other indigenous defense systems that will also be showcased in this year’s Republic Day parade include the Dhanush Gun System, Akash (L) Launcher, Sunktar Universal Rocket Launcher System and Akash Missiles. All these platforms reflect the maturity of India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem.

Underlining social participation, the parade has invited around 10,000 special guests, including women from different walks of life. These guests have been selected for their outstanding contribution in income generation, innovation, research, startups, self-help groups and major government schemes.

This event holds special importance even at the international level. European Council President Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be this year’s chief guests. Their presence reflects the growing strategic and defense cooperation between India and the EU.
